The Utmost Food Guide: Where to Eat in Taipei Part II

Last month, I posted a blog post about Taipei food and I also made a promise to share more places to you. This time, I would write a little bit differently. Instead of just reviewing the restaurants, I will also include some other useful information that you might need. And therefore, here are another 7 must-visit places in Taipei.

1. Cheogajip Korean Chicken

With just a few minutes walk from the Exit 5 of Sut Yat Sen Memorial Hall MRT station, you will arrived at the town's best Korean chicken restaurant, Cheogajip. The two-story store is always crowded during both day and night and it would not be a surprise that the staff will ask you to wait for 1-2 hours. But, that's what they always say everywhere. Normally, it will only take around 30-45 minutes to enter the store.

Cheogajip offers different kinds of sauces and seasonings for their fried chicken. During my visit, I ordered the Half-Half Fried Chicken which is a whole fried chicken with two different flavors: Original and the Golden Cheese. I really fall for their Golden Cheese sauce as it has a little bit of sweet Korean paste flavor in addition to the rich cheese. If you plan to visit here, it's better to just come with a small number of people - you would probably enter pretty quick!

2. Street Churros

Once you're done visiting Cheogajip, it is also worth to try out the infamous Street Churros which is just located near the MRT station exit gate. Originated from South Korea, Street Churros serves fresh Spanish churro in a very unique manner. They got plenty of options such as churro with ice cream, churro with filling, including savory churro.

What makes their churro my favorite is that it is crunchy yet also chewy - different with what other stores offer. During special seasons like Christmas, they also have some special offer such as the Strawberry Ice Cream with Churros last Christmas.

In addition to Cheogajip and Street Churros, there are lots of unique cafes and stores that you can visit in this area as well. Some of it inludes Lady M, Sugar Miss, and Uncle's Taiwan.

3. LinDongFang

This restaurant is not usually listed in the top tourist destinations, but it actually deserves the spot. When I first arrived in Taipei, many recommended the well-known YongKang Beef Noodle - which I did the review in the Part I - as the best beef noodle shop in Taipei. But once I have tried LinDongFang's, I would say that it is the best one in Taipei.

First thing first, their beef soup is just distinct. Unlike common beef noodles or Yongkang's, their broth is less sweet and more clear - which I trully adore. It's like what is so expected coming from a beef noodle. Second, the moist and tender beef chunks are just undoubtedly delicious. You can really taste the authentic Taiwanese ingredients from the beef. In short, it was such an excellent and pleasant experience.

4. Woosa Pancake
Woosa is a pancake house that specializes in serving Japanese Soufflé Pancakes. The restaurant is located inside the Q-square mall, located in the Zhongshan District. If this is your first time hearing this, Japanese Soufflé Pancake is a type of pancake that is fluffy and super-soft-textured. It's not quite solid like general pancakes, so it was a whole new experience for us tasting it.

We ordered Pancake with Mont Blanc Vanilla Ice Cream and Pancake with Wild Berry and Strawberry Ice Cream - and both are just truly appetizing. For an order of meal which is approximately $300 NT, you will get a $130 NT balance for any beverages. Other than the famous Flipper's pancake, Woosa is absolutely a must-visit!

5. Ranmaru Ramen
If you happen to have a thing for ramen just like me, Ranmaru Ramen is really a must-visit for you - besides Ichiran Ramen & Nagi Ramen. The ramen shop located in the Zhongshan District of Taipei City. It is a only a small shop that it only occupies 10 people at the same time. Thus regardless of the peak hours, there would always be a long queue.

Basically they offer two types of soup: soy sauce soup or soy sauce with pork bone soup. We did try both of them and both are just delicious - the pork bone soup is richer in flavor obviously. As for the meat, we decided to have the special ones yet they also provide less meat or even no meat at all. The two types of pork in the left picture are kind of smokey and for the right picture, it has both grilled pork and house special pork. So you get to decide, it's your very own ramen bowl anyway!

6. MingShiangYuan

As I and Gaby were confused on what restaurant to visit in our last few weeks - yes we travel too much that we didn't have any idea on what to visit next - our Taiwanese friend recommended us this restaurant. The restaurant is located on the 2nd floor, just next to Ranmaru Ramen, and they don't have quite a lot of tables - which explains their long queue.

For the main dishes, we tried their rich flavored Pork Rice, Beef and Eggs Rice, and Classic Chang Fen. They were such perfect choices. I would say that their meat - be it beef or pork - are just truly well-seasoned. We also did try the house's Special Buttered Toast and we are totally in love. Some sweet egg-yolk jam is spread in between the toasts, making a magical completion of the salty taste from the butter. MingShiangYuan is definitely worth the place in your checklist!

7. YuDong

Although it is true that there are lots of delicious Japanese restaurants in Taipei, Yudong is one that is listed in my favorites. It is a traditional Japanese restaurant which is located in the Zhongshan District as well. According to what I've heard of, they are best in making Sashimi Don.

And it's absolutely true! Each slice of the sashimi was just fresh and nicely served. Yet apparently, it is not only their sashimi that deserves the shoutout, but also their cooked meals. We also ordered a Salmon Rice and to say that it was delicious is merely an understatement - it was indeed heavenly. In addition to the perfect texture of the fish itself, the seasonings are just completely splendid.
